L.A. Noire Speedrunner’s Guide

The title card for The Fallen Idol

This is one of the first cases that get more involved with all kinds of action skips including a tricky ending that will have a huge payoff once you get the trick.

Alas, poor Yorick! I knew him Horatio...

Central Station

Leave the station as usual.

When leaving through the doors, the patrol car is on the left of the door. As you go into the door, make sure the camera is always facing the door so that it stays open. Have Bekowsky drive you to the crash site.

Crash Site

Skipping the intro cutscenes, head between the two cop cars, and go down the downward path leading to the crashed car. Inspect both the underwear and the letter in the handbag: make sure to scroll down fast to fully inspect the letter.

The underwear that was torn off of the innocent Jessica Hamilton
The letter in Jessica's purse from her concerned parents

Once you have inspected both, talk to Mal about the shrunken head, tilt the head right when inspecting. Make sure to put down the head after Mal tells you what the head is made from, skipping part of the cutscene.

The shrunken head that was used to accelerate the car off the cliff

After interacting with Mal, go back up the same path and speak to June Ballard who is sitting on the back of the ambulance across the open area.

After the interrogation, Bekowsky has a line of dialogue before the next destination opens up. Run to the car across the way as Bekowsky is talking. Once his dialogue ends, immediately have Bekowsky drive you to the Central Receiving Hospital.

Central Receiving Hospital

Skip the intro cutscene and jog into the entrance. Talk to the receptionist to find out where Jessica’s room is. Enter her room and there will be unskippable dialogue which shall be followed by spamming the talk button to question her.

With interrogations that have Lie or Accuse as an answer, if a clue isn’t specified then just spam A, X, or LMB to select the first clue.

Once the interrogation ends, go out of the room and skip the cutscene. This starts the tailing mission where you tail June Ballard’s car.

Skipping the cutscene will put you in the car automatically . Turn on the siren and chase after her to fail the tailing. Repeat two more times until you are able to skip the action.

After skipping, the game wants you to hide in the restaurant to listen in on Ballard’s phone call. Immediately turn on the siren, and it will immediately fail. Doing so two more times will allow you to skip the stealth mission.

After skipping, have Bekowsky drive you to Mark Bishop’s apartment.

Mark Bishop's Apartment

Skip and sprint out of the intro cutscene and be met with an unskippable cutscene with the receptionist. Head into the closest elevator and hang a left to reach the door of the apartment as instructed.

Skip the cutscene going into the apartment. Head through the hallway and go around the left corner, there will be a photograph on the cabinet to inspect as shown.

Put it down as fast as possible and go in front of the chair to interrogate Mrs. Bishop.

Use the phone around the same corner to locate the prop store. Go back out the way you came and have Bekowsky drive you to Silver Screen Props.

Silver Screen Props

Go in and talk to Marlon Hopgood at the desk. Follow Hopgood through his prop shop after the cutscene ends. When you get through the fourth door, skip the cutscene.

Go right and inspect the gleaming mirror on the far back wall. After Bekowsky says “Humor him,” there’s a point where you can skip by backing out of the clue early, but it’s a very hard skip to consistently pull off.

If the skip is pulled off correctly, you should be able to skip the second half of this inspection

Once done inspecting the mirror, go out the way you came and turn left out of the building and inspect the fake wall revealing the secret room. Spam A, X, or LMB to further inspect the clue, which is to kick it as hard as possible in the eyes of Phelps.

Go in the secret room, and inspect the red film reel on the left shelf.

The film reel for Jungle Drums

By going into the map using the M key, and backing out immediately will allow you to put down the film reel faster, as well as keep the doors open for your exit.

*The map strategy has not been tested on console, and it may theoretically be slower as there is no map key.

Leave the peeping room and back the way you came originally to leave the prop store entirely. When you do, skip the cutscene that follows and immediately get out of the car while holding sprint and aim.

Shoot and eliminate the first two guys in front of the store, one will run to the wall on the right while another will take cover behind the truck on the left.

After picking them off, aim behind you to take out the enemies driving up in a car, they will slow down which will make it easier for you to kill them.

Once everyone has been eliminated, run to the car and have Bekowsky drive you to the Intolerance movie set.

The Intolerance Movie Set

*Make sure to practice this part to get a sense of how to skip shootouts

Immediately skip the cutscene when you arrive, and sprint away from the set to get back in your car. Start reversing in your car, turn left and back into the wooden fence on the right. Hop over the wooden fence and run across the street to fail the chasing of Mark Bishop. Do this two more times to skip the chase.

Run across the street to skip the chase

For this next part, you will try to shoot Mark Bishop to skip the shootout with McAfee’s goons. The concept is to aim next to him, then as you shoot you put the cursor over him to intentionally shoot him, as the game won't just allow you to shoot him intuitively.

For this first one, if you can't shoot him as he is about to climb the ladder, you can shoot him through the wooden scaffolding as shown here.

Shooting Bishop before he slides down the ladder
This is the most optimal time to shoot
As he goes down the ladder, you can still shoot him through one of the cracks
Without moving around, this is the best backup strategy
Another crack down below shows another opening to shoot Bishop
Second backup without moving
This is the ultimate backup strat: to shoot him as he takes cover behind the crates
Move to the right a bit to see Mark Bishop in cover and staying still

In the next set of skips, try to be as fast as possible with shooting Bishop. Of course, practice makes perfect.

If he goes down the ladder, there is a way to edge across on the right to try and shoot him. Otherwise, go down the ladder and around the right where he is crouched down.

Second skip, try and shoot him before he goes down the ladder
This is the most optimal time to shoot
You can still shoot him as he goes down the ladder if you step towards the edge a little bit
Walk up to the side of the ladder to catch him while Bishop goes down the ladder
While still on the rooftop, there's an angle at which you can shoot Mark coming around the corner
You can also catch him while going around the corner
The ultimate backup strat
If none of the three work, go down the ladder and shoot him while he is taking cover

Skipping all the shootouts will have cutscenes afterwards, skip those and it’s the end of the case.
